Grammar Tidbit #5

Your vs. You're
For definitions of possessive and contractions go here.

Much like "its" and "it's" it a matter of determining that:

"your" shows ownership
"you're" is a contraction of "you" and "are"

SO to make it simple...
IF you can substitute "you are" in the sentence and it makes sense, then use "you're."

Otherswise, show ownership and use your...

Other thoughts...
"Kid puke" is MUCH worse than "baby spit up..."
Few things are better than when your child gets over the stomach flu...

I haven't had the "pleasure" yet of kid puke. Not looking forward to it.

Amy and I were thinking about having you do an explanation of when to use apostrophe "s", as in:

Matt Bayley's blog
Matt Bayleys blog
The Bayleys blog

etc

Emily - yes, ending in a preposition is a good one, but difficult to address when our language is changing so much that it seems to more and more accepted.
Matt-I'll do my best to clear it up!
Amber- right now all is well, but it did present some challenges in furniture cleaning!
Heather, unfortunately, it's only a matter of time I suppose...
